It's STILL Raining! With Drought Alleviated, We Should Continue To Conserve

A word from Chris Butts, of Bogart, Director of Legislative and Environmental Affairs for The Georgia Green Industry Association:

As our traditional spring planting season approaches, we encourage regulatory officials and water providers across the region to react to these changing conditions by appropriately modifying local water restrictions in order to promote the planting of flowers, trees and shrubs.

We stress responsible modifications because all Georgians must realize the culture of conservation must continue even if rains continue and drought conditions are completely reversed. Our industry is committed to the ongoing efforts to encourage efficient water use by promoting efficient forms of irrigation, plant selection and proper planting techniques.

GGIA is a leader within the state of Georgia providing training and certification programs to ensure that your local growers, landscapers, irrigation professionals and garden center operators are qualified to educate consumers on all aspects of water conservation in sustainable landscapes. We also work hand-in-hand with the Georgia Water Wise Council, EPD and local water providers to help develop water rules and regulations that promote conservation.

Spring fever comes naturally this time of year, and the green industry encourages all Georgians to get outside and reconnect with Mother Nature. Gardening is the original "green" activity. You'll be adding to the beauty of our state while acting as a steward of the environment by gardening in water-smart ways.
