Builder Profile: Jared York, J.W. York Homes

We're starting a new series of Builder Profiles so you can get to know some of the builders we work with at Full Circle. Several of us have worked alongside Jared York of J.W. York Homes to custom build homes for our clients and we've all been very happy with the experience. We've found him to be a progressive builder of quality homes, who is easy to work with and is on the cutting edge of energy-efficient building. It's nice to find a builder who shares our company's philosophy of sustainable development.

You can check out Jared's work HERE and view a fantastic in-town home he recently built with tons of "green" attributes HERE that is on the market for only $184,900.

Hometown? Originally Fayetteville GA
Family?    Wife, 14 month daughter Charlotte, twin girls on the way
Why did you become a builder?   I love designing and creating things. It was just a natural progression.
What attracted you to build in Athens? My wife and I went to school here and fell in love with Athens, we always wanted to come back
What is your favorite style of architecture?  - I think the “Cottage” style would have to be #1 for me.
Who’s your favorite architect? Alison Ramsey – I build a lot of smaller homes, and she really understands how to get the most out of small home.
What new products or trends in building are you excited about? – I am excited about the downsizing of new homes. It is going to make people think about how to get the most out of each square foot of a home.
What “green” building products or techniques are you excited about?  --I am really liking geothermal heating and cooling. We are doing our first two geothermal projects right now and this is really a superior way to heat and cool your home. As we see the cost of geothermal come down this is going to become a mainstream energy efficient solution.
What do you see on the horizon for home building in Athens?  I see more quality and efficient home building replacing some of lesser quality building practices we saw in the boom.
As a builder, what do you want your legacy to be?    I would just like my homes to continue to be efficient and provide a healthy place to live for families long after I am gone.
Best advice you’ve been given?    “Athens is a small town; you must treat people right” – my mentor
Who are you listening to on your iPod now?    Morrissey
Favorite Athens restaurant/bar?   Nothing beats Sunday brunch at Last Resort
