Athens-Clarke County Loosens Watering Restrictions

Athens-Clarke County Mayor Heidi Davison has signed an order modifying local outdoor water use restrictions to allow two day a week outdoor watering in addition to the existing restrictions that have been in effect since October of 2008. In addition to watering of landscapes, hand washing vehicles and pressure washing structures is allowed according to the odd/even schedule from midnight to 10:00 a.m. A permit will no longer be required for pressure washing. Permits will only be required for weekend watering of newly installed landscapes.

It's STILL Raining! With Drought Alleviated, We Should Continue To Conserve

A word from Chris Butts, of Bogart, Director of Legislative and Environmental Affairs for The Georgia Green Industry Association:

As our traditional spring planting season approaches, we encourage regulatory officials and water providers across the region to react to these changing conditions by appropriately modifying local water restrictions in order to promote the planting of flowers, trees and shrubs.

We stress responsible modifications because all Georgians must realize the culture of conservation must continue even if rains continue and drought conditions are completely reversed. Our industry is committed to the ongoing efforts to encourage efficient water use by promoting efficient forms of irrigation, plant selection and proper planting techniques.
